Let’s get one thing straight, your story does matter.
It creates connection, it builds credibility, and it’s the reason someone might pause mid-scroll and think, “I like this person.”
But here’s the hot take: your website isn’t about you.
Not really.
If your site is packed with paragraphs about your journey, your why, and your process, but barely a line about your audience’s needs, there’s a disconnect. The most effective websites don’t just showcase your story, they speak directly to the people you’re trying to help.
✨ Make your site a conversation, not a presentation
Talk to your audience, not at them. What questions are they asking? What language do they use? What are they hoping to find when they land on your site?
✨ Lead with what they get, not just what you do
Your audience doesn’t need a long list of your features, they want to know what’s in it for them. Frame your services around their transformation.
✨ Let your design support your message, not carry it
Beautiful visuals are powerful, but if the copy falls flat, so will the connection. Design should amplify what you’re saying, not distract from the lack of clarity.
1. Read your homepage copy out loud.
Does it sound like a conversation or a monologue? If it feels stiff or self-centered, it might be time for a refresh.
2. Check your CTA visibility.
Is it clear what action your visitor should take? If they have to hunt for your “Book Now” or “Contact Me” button, that’s a red flag.
3. Look for “we” language.
Swap out a few “we do this” lines for “you get this” messaging. Centering the client makes your offer instantly more compelling.
Here’s your sign to take a second look at your site:
Are you telling your story, or helping your audience imagine theirs?
